I agree I also use a Garmin. google fit doesnt work and I dont like using a phone. went out and got a small fitbit which is rather overkill.

There are many app you can use to sync your steps between pedometers and different fitness apps. I personally like to use the ‘Health Sync’ app because sometimes googlefit updates and doesnt count steps, so I sync with samsung health.
